Mother of troubled man speaks out

He's just 18 and has serious charges dating back for years. He's back in trouble with the law and his mother is speaking out. Denetrice Crump turned her son into police after seeing a report on Action News 5. In an exclusive interview, Crump said she turned her son in because he wanted her to. Denetrice Crump's life is constantly jolted by crime. The mother of eight takes care of her son Mark, permanently disabled by a bullet to the head in 2002. Another son, Melvin, is in the CJC charged with aggravated assault for a shooting in their neighborhood in December. Her other son Victor is charged in the same crime.

And records show Victor Crump has been repeatedly in trouble, charged at just 13 in the ca
rjacking of prominent Memphis attorney Kemper Durand in May of 2000. In the summer of 2003 Victor Crump and one of his friends were charged with burglary after a slew of crimes at a multi-level parking garage on Washington.
It was a bold crime at the time considering that garage is right across the street from the criminal justice center. Denetrice Crump said, "He was an A-1 student. Used to go to school when school wasn't even open. Never talked back. Always had a smile on his face. He was a good kid you know. Just happy all the time." But pictures of her son in happier times have given way to mugshot after mugshot, and police say involvement in violent crimes. And now the mother realizes that not only will two of her sons not be home for Easter. They might not return for a long time. Police said the crimes we told you about could just be the
tip
of the iceberg
. They say Crump could be connected to other violent crimes like carjackings and shootings. It's just a matte
r of time before Crump is charged with other crimes as well.
