Teen boy fatally shot by officer
ROME - A police officer shot and killed a 16-year-old boy while responding to a burglary.
Sgt. Carla Pearson and two other Rome police officers went to the home at about 9:30 a.m. Friday after a neighbor called to report a burglary, according to the incident report.
The officers told Craig Jawayne Elkins to come out of the house but he would not. As they entered the house, Elkins rushed toward them and Pearson fired one shot, the report said.
Elkins was taken to Floyd Medical Center, where he died, authorities said.
Police sai
they do not know if the boy was armed.
