Helena teen charged with second-degree rape for 2nd time in 2 weeks

A Helena teen is charged with second-degree rape, his second arrest on that crime in less than two weeks.

Samuel Woods III, 19, was arrested by Helena police on Saturday, according to court records made public today. He remains in the Shelby County Jail with bond set at $30,000.

According to his arrest warrant, Woods had sexual intercourse on June 6, 2015 with a girl who was 15 years old at the time.

According to Alabama law, a person commits the crime of rape in the second degree if:

(1) Being 16 years old or older, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex less than 16 and more than 12 years old; provided, however, the actor is at least two years older than the member of the opposite sex.

(2) He or she engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex who is incapable of consent by reason of being mentally defective.

Alabaster police on June 18 arrested Woods on a second-degree rape charge involving a different victim. In that case, authorities claim Woods had sexual intercourse with a now-14-year-old girl in September 2015.

Vestavia Hills man arrested for rape same day he bonded out of jail on rape charge

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. —

A Vestavia Hills man will go to trial next month on six counts of rape. He was arrested and charged with rape while out on bond for the same charge.

Court records show Samuel Woods III's charges date back to 2015. Woods is accused of having sex with a girl who was between 12 and 16 years old. The incidents allegedly occurred in June and September of 2015. More charges were filed in regards to incidents that allegedly happened on April 17 and April 20 of 2016.

He left jail after posting bond, but was arrested again a few days later. After posting bond, he was arrested a third time, on the same day he left jail.

Woods remained behind bars until September of 2016 after a judge reduced his bond.

Fast forward to 2017, Woods was charged with two additional counts of rape involving a teen girl. A judge then revoked his bond, and Woods remains behind bars. His trial is set for next month.
