LABELLE - A city commissioner was killed in a fight that drew more than 100 people and authorities said he might have been trying to break up the altercation.
LaBelle City Commissioner James Singleton was dead Saturday when deputies arrived at the scene, said Susan Harrelle, spokeswoman for the Hendry County Sheriff's Office. Singleton often acted as a mediator in the community, Harrelle said Sat*rday.
Cornelius Johnson, 23, of LaBelle, was charged with battery
''We have conclusive evidence that Cornelius Johnson struck City Commissioner James Singleton,'' Harrelle said.
Two others were charged with inciting a riot -- Tyrone Love,

of LaBelle, and a 15-year-old girl.
