Sex abuse victim’s mom rips ‘pedophile’ former babysitter at sentencing: ‘Straight-up predator’

The mother of a young boy sexually abused by his babysitter for six years told a hushed courtroom Thursday she was left with a broken “mom heart” by the “pedophile” she once considered part of the family.
The mom, who did not identify herself in court because of privacy concerns, delivered a tearful statement at the Manhattan Supreme Court sentencing of Jonathan Luna, 34, the family’s former babysitter, who was hit with 12 years for sexual conduct against a child.
“To call you a wolf in sheep’s clothing is in a way how it feels, but that sounds too poetic,” the tearful mom said. “What you really are is a straight-up predator, a pedophile.”
While working as the family’s babysitter, the victimized youngster’s mom said she considered Luna part of the family, and shared details about the trust they built — only to have Luna “weaponize” it against her son..
Luna regularly sexually abused the child in his care, starting from the second grade to when the boy reached the sixth grade, according to prosecutors.

His sickening hold over the little boy finally ended when the child told his parents what his babysitter was doing.

“He told us that that guy – our guy – had repeatedly and regularly molested him… raped him were our son’s words,” the mom said.

“You did those things, and then you did them again. You could’ve quit knowing you crossed the line but you didn’t. You kept at it for years in our home without his consent. He was so young, so little.”

“Up until then, we considered you part of the family,” she said. “I cared for you more like a nephew than a babysitter,” she added.

The boy, now a teenager, continues to experience nightmares and remains “tormented” from Luna’s abuse — unable to enjoy childhood milestones like sleep-away camp, and suffering psychologically from the years-long abuse, according to his mom.

Luna, who also worked as a Boys Scout Cubmaster and camp counselor, among other jobs involving youth, didn’t look once at the victim’s mom during her heart-wrenching 10-minute speech.

He will serve 12 years in prison and have 13 years post-release supervision, and have to register as a sex offender.

The distraught mom said she also blamed herself for not protecting her son.

“As for me, your actions quite literally broke my heart — my mom’s heart,” she said.

But Justice Diane Kiesel consoled the devastated mom, urging her to not harbor any guilt and applauding her courage for coming forward.

“It breaks my heart to think you’re walking around with guilt when you too were a victim here,” Kiesel said.

According to authorities, Luna’s other jobs working with kids included: as a Cubmaster from 2007 until early 2012; as a counselor at the Boy Scott Keowa Summer Camp in Sullivan County in 2015; as a counselor for the McBurney YMCA after-school program at PS 41 in Greenwich Village from 2013 through 2016; as a camp counselor in Pennsylvania from 2016-2017; and as an afterschool counselor at PS 340 in Chelsea for three months in 2022.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office asked any parents who believe their children may have had contact with Luna to contact its child abuse unit at 212-335-4308.

Ex-NYC teacher arrested for alleged sexual abuse of mentally ill student: feds

A disgraced New York City teacher who was fired because of her alleged sexual abuse of a mentally ill underage student was arrested Wednesday over the illicit relationship, the feds announced.
Sandy Carazas-Pinez, 34, is accused of luring the 16-year-old boy — who attended a Yonkers school for children with special needs — into a sexual relationship and convincing him to appear on an X-rated livestream while on a video call with her, according to Manhattan federal prosecutors.
From November 2022 through February of this year, Carazas-Pinez — a Bethel, Ct. married mother of three — groomed the Biondi School student and had sex with him, calling the encounters “gifts,” according to the indictment against her.
The former Big Apple biology teacher sexted with the student and then would repeatedly tell him to delete the images and messages she sent him, the court papers allege.
Carazas-Pinez also allegedly orchestrated encounters off school premises, instructing the teen to get day passes to get out of class so they could meet nearby. She would then pick him up and drive to places in the Bronx, Yonkers and Staten Island to have sex with him, the indictment states.

The student “expressed a desire to end their relationship” — but Carazas-Pinez allegedly coaxed him into continuing by “threatening to remove school privileges” if he didn’t carry on with her, the filing claimed.

Carazas-Pinez managed to keep things under wraps until February when school officials discovered she had been seen off-campus with the teen in her car and “in close contact” with him in her classroom, the court docs state.

She was then fired.

After, during a recorded call in March, the victim asked Carazas-Pinez if the two had been spotted having sex in the car. She merely said the pair were seen in the vehicle together, but didn’t deny that they had intercourse, the indictment alleges.

Carazas-Pinez also texted the student from a new number in March telling him to delete all of their messages, according to the charging document.

She was charged with enticing a minor victim to engage in illegal sexual activity and the production of child pornography.

She faces 10 years to life in prison if convicted on the top charge.

“Sandy Carazas-Pinez exploited the trust placed in her as a teacher to sexually abuse a teenage student in her care,” Manhattan US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.

The Post exclusively reported in March on a slew of text messages Carazas-Pinez — who also previously taught at PS/MS 007 in Harlem and PS/IS 218 in The Bronx — sent the teen that officials had as part of their investigation.

“I know for me it isn’t going to be easy, I will miss your kisses, hugs and everything,” Carazas-Pinez allegedly wrote to the boy when discussing whether to “end it.”

In another message she allegedly said: “I do miss your touch and kisses not going to lie. . . . I sound like a pervert.”

Her husband told The Post at the time that he’d kicked her out over the alleged abuse.

The boy’s mom said that her son suffered from both schizophrenia and mood disorder and she accused the cops of dragging their feet on the investigation because her son is African American.

“It’s the rape of a child with a mental illness,” the mother said. “As a society, we have to prioritize the safety of children who are mentally ill and boys who are sexually assaulted.”

On Wednesday, the mom, whose name The Post is withholding to protect her son’s privacy, said she was “relieved” the alleged pedophile teacher had finally been arrested.

“I’m relieved that she’s finally arrested, and that she no longer has access to my child, or potentially others,” the mom said. “As long as she’s put away and can’t harm any more children, that should be the ultimate goal.”

The boy’s dad reiterated the parents believe law enforcement was too slow to act.

“It’s about time. It just took too long,” he said.

Carazas-Pinez’s lawyer Mario Gallucci told The Post: “This case is in its infancy and we await discovery to determine all possible defenses.”

Ex-NYC middle school music teacher admits to sexually abusing five students: prosecutors

A former Bronx charter middle school music teacher has admitted to sexually abusing five girls — one of whom was as young as 12 — while they were his students around two decades ago, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

Jesus Concepcion, 50, will face a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison at his sentencing for the years-long scheme to groom and abuse the girls when he taught and was the orchestra conductor at the KIPP Academy Middle School from 2000 through 2007, the Manhattan US Attorney’s office said.

Concepcion — who went by “Mr. C” — singled the middle schoolers out, lavishing attention on them and showering them with money, clothing, jewelry and other gifts.

He manipulated the young girls into believing they were in romantic relationships with him before sexually abusing them — even giving some of them cellphones so they could secretly arrange meetups, prosecutors alleged.

The creep also plied some of his victims with alcohol to help him carry out the abuse, which took place in the school’s music room, in a backroom of the auditorium, in cars, motels and at his home, the feds said.

He even traveled to Connecticut to visit one of the girls at her high school and sexually abuse her after she graduated from KIPP, according to prosecutors.

Concepcion allegedly forced himself at least once on another girl at a New Jersey motel where he had brought her from the Bronx.

He also groomed another victim, a 13-year-old girl, by sending her hundreds of text messages for months before meeting her during school and kissing her on the mouth, prosecutors said.

Concepcion, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, was arrested in August 2021.

He pleaded guilty Monday to charges of enticing a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, transporting a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity and traveling with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity with a minor.

“Jesus Concepcion engaged in a years-long scheme to manipulate, exploit, and sexually abuse young girls at the middle school where he taught,” Manhattan US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement Tuesday.

“Concepcion abused his position of trust as the students’ teacher to lull them into a false sense of security and to then exploit them for his own sexual gratification.”

Concepcion faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years behind bars and a maximum of life imprisonment at his Dec. 11 sentencing.

He was fired from KIPP, the school told parents at the time of his arrest.

And the teacher previously resigned for “personal reasons” in March 2001 from Bronx Preparatory Charter School where some students described him as a “father figure,” according to a report by the New York Times.

Before Bronx Prep, Concepcion had worked a prior stint at KIPP.

Lawyers for Concepcion didn’t return a request for comment Tuesday.

A former New Jersey tennis instructor has been convicted of a slew of sexual crimes against a student over the course of more than a year, which began when the girl was 12, officials said.
Terry Y. Kuo, 32, of Colts Neck, N.J., was found guilty by a jury Wednesday on 14 charges, including two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
“The conduct of this defendant, so thoroughly outlined by our prosecutors during the course of this trial, was nearly incomprehensibly manipulative and predatory,” Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said.
Prosecutors launched an investigation into the former tennis pro after one of his students claimed that he had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions from August 2016 to November 2017, officials said.

Kuo sexually assaulted the student on multiple occasions from August 2016 to November 2017.
Marlboro Township Police and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Bureau and Computer Crimes Unit obtained evidence on Kuo’s electronic devices of his sex crimes against the student, along with child pornography, authorities said.
The evidence, together with testimony from the now-19-year-old victim, proved that Kuo lavished the young student with gifts, including expensive electronics, jewelry, and designer clothing and accessories, while sexually abusing her, prosecutors said.
Kuo, who was arrested in November 2017 and is currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, could face life in prison when sentenced on December 1.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A former Philadelphia priest pleaded guilty to felony child sex crimes Monday, and an ex-police officer received a 15 to 40 aggregated sentence in a separate case, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office said in a news conference.

The DA's office said former Catholic priest Armand Garcia pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of felony child sex crimes: one count of unlawful contact with a minor and one count of corrupting a minor. Former Philadelphia police officer Patrick Heron also pleaded guilty to child sex crimes last Friday.

"For far too long, Armand Garcia was able to evade suspicion and enjoy the protective comforts that afforded him by being a Catholic priest," Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Clarke Beljean said. "No one suspected him of any wrongdoing because no one could imagine that a parish priest would behave this way."

Garcia was arrested in 2019 for abusing the teen while he was at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Philadelphia's Andorra neighborhood between 2014 and 2017. He also committed unlawful conduct with the same girl in his home in Delaware County, the DA's office said. He first met the girl when she was a 13-year-old altar server at the Immaculate Heart of Mary's Elementary School.

Beljean said in a news conference Monday that the victim stood before court Monday to share the impact of Garcia's abuse.

"The victim's resolve in continuing to participate in what turned out to be a lengthy court process," Beljean said, "and to stand before the court this morning and powerfully describe the impact that the defendant's actions of grooming beginning at 13, stealing her innocence at 16 and the practice of emotional manipulation have had on her, her family and that shows just how incredible of a young adult that the victim has grown to be."

LaQuisha Anthony, program lead and advocacy coordinator of WOAR Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence, read a statement from Garcia's victim during a news conference.

"For almost 10 years now, I have felt the impact of his abuse. His actions will haunt me forever and I truly will have them follow me to my grave. Christian doctrine tells us that we're supposed to forgive others for their transgressions against us, but I cannot forgive this man. He will never understand the fear that I faced every day as a teenager knowing that when he insisted on raping me, I could do nothing to stop him."
Heron pleaded guilty Friday after agreeing to a plea deal of between 15 and 40 years behind bars for counts of unlawful contact, sexual abuse of children, forgery and related charges.

Heron allegedly sexually assaulted dozens of underage women in the city's Kensington neighborhood while on duty between 2005 and 2017.

Prosecutors previously showed evidence of Heron taking pictures and videos with his victims while assaulting them, some in the backseat of his patrol unit.

Now, Bucks County officials and the Quakertown Borough Police Department are saying there could be more victims and are asking for them to come forward.

Back on Oct. 24, Quakertown police said they received a report that a 15-year-old girl had been raped the previous night, Monday, Oct. 23 in the Giant grocery store parking lot on 1465 W. Broad Street.

The 15-year-old told police the man, now identified as Sanchez, allegedly raped her inside his car in the parking lot.

Through surveillance investigating, Quakertown police found the vehicle that the 15-year-old had described as a white, 4-door vehicle.

Police linked the car found on surveillance at the time of the rape to Sanchez. His driver's license photo also matched photo evidence found on the 15-year-old's phone.

The girl told police she met Sanchez just once before and they exchanged contact information over Snapchat. She said he asked her for naked videos and videos of her performing sexual acts in exchange for money. Police say the 32-year-old also asked a 16-year-old girl, one of the 15-year-old's friends, for the same types of videos.

Kristen McGarvey, a digital safety expert, said incidents like these are an important time for parents to talk about online security with their children since this crime has ties to social media.

Coatesville man faces slew of charges after breaking into home, watching child sleep

COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- A Coatesville man is now facing a slew of charges after police say he broke into a home several times and watched a little girl sleep.

Coatesville police identified Jefferson Mejia Gonzalez as the man behind the break-ins.

Around 3 p.m. Gonzalez turned himself in to the City of Coatesville Police Department and shortly thereafter he was arraigned in front of a district judge.

The mother of the little girl, Tiffani Szabara, shared surveillance video with CBS News Philadelphia of the last time Gonzalez broke in.

Above is a still picture from the surveillance, however in the full video, you can see him entering inside early Christmas Eve morning through the back door, and then leaving about five minutes later.

Police said this video, plus tips from the public helped them identify the 24-year-old.

Detectives said Gonzalez broke into the house on Pennsylvania Avenue at least four separate times in the overnight hours over the last three months. Each time, they said he went to watch a 9-year-old girl in her bedroom.

Detectives told CBS News Philadelphia that Gonzalez even spoke with the child on some of those occasions.

Szabara said she didn't know the man and was afraid he was trying to abduct her daughter.

"Four times that he physically got in, but there were other occasions that he tried to get in, but was unsuccessful because everything was locked down correctly," she said.

"As far as we know, no, he's not involved with children at all. So apart from this incident, there's nothing that would leave me to believe that anything else has happened," said lead investigator on the case, Jose Colon.

"Everyone's worst nightmare. Every mom's worst nightmare," Szabara said.

Police first shared photos on their Facebook page of Gonzalez back on Monday.

In another post from Wednesday afternoon, police announced an arrest warrant for Gonzalez and said more charges could come as their investigation continues. His current charges include burglary, criminal trespassing, interference with custody of children, criminal mischief, harassment and stalking.

Gonzalez had no comment as he was taken into a police car Wednesday afternoon. Police said the judge set cash bail at $150,000.

Ervin Jeovany Alfaro-Lopez, 33, is accused of groping at least four little girls as they prayed at a church outside Washington, DC, while he worked there as a teacher.
He faces 25 counts of sexual misconduct charges for abuse allegations date as far back as 2014.

Ervin Jeovany Alfaro-Lopez, 33, a twice-deported illegal immigrant from El Salvador, has been charged with more than 20 sexual offenses dating back to 2014, according to ICE.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed to The Post Monday that Alfaro-Lopez was removed from the US in 2015 and again in 2020.
According to ICE, Alfaro-Lopez’s first brush with border agents was on March 23, 2015, when US Border Patrol (USBP) arrested him near Lake Charles, La. for having unlawfully entered the US.

He was released in April 2015 on $7,500 bond and ordered to report to the ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Baltimore field office (ERO).
A Baltimore immigration judge ordered Alfaro-Lopez be removed from the country in September 2018, but he was arrested again in January 2019 and was ordered to leave the country.
He crossed out of the US in April 2019, ERO Baltimore spokesperson James Covington told The Post.
However, he later returned and was apprehended again less than a year later in March 2020 in Rio Grande Valley, Texas after apparently sneaking across the border once more.
Border Patrol agents processed him for expedited removal and he was sent back to El Salvador later that month.
