Social media beef, possible weed sale lead to deadly shooting in NW Harris County, investigators say​


Authorities with the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office said a 20-year-old was shot and died at the scene.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Authorities in northwest Harris County are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon.

According to officials with the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office, the call came in at about 3 p.m.

A man said he shot his neighbor on Terra Canyon Lane, which is in a neighborhood near the intersection of Fry and Longenbaugh roads.

The 20-year-old who was shot died, according to authorities.

Investigators said the shooting is possibly related to an argument on social media and the sale of marijuana. Gonzalez said Kourtney Peete grabbed a knife and confronted his neighbor. His neighbor had a gun and opened fire, killing Peete.

Gonzalez said no charges are being filed at this time and the case will be referred to a grand jury.

COMMUNITY ADVISORY

On May 21, 2020, deputies with Constable Mark Herman's Office responded to the 19400 block of Kacey Lane Court in reference to a disturbance.

During the investigation, it was discovered that a male suspect, Montez Lee assaulted a victim at the location. He was then found to have a felony warrant for his arrest. While placing him in custody, another male, Kourtney Peete attempted to fight the deputies on scene.

Peete refused to comply with verbal commands and resisted arrest. At this time, a female identified as Montana Lee exited the residence and attempted to interfere by pulling deputies away from Peete but a Constable Deputy utilized his department issued taser and was able to apprehend them.

"All three suspects were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. Montez Lee was charged with Assault and his open felony warrant. He received No Bond out of County Court 6. Kourtney Peete was charged with Retaliation and Montana Lee with Interfering with the Duties of a Public Servant. Their bond and court information have not been set at this time." - Constable Mark Herman
