ST. LOUIS: Woman is arrested in shootings on Era Ave.

04/02/2007

St. Louis police arrested on Sunday an 18-year-old woman suspected of fatally shooting a woman and wounding a man Saturday in the 5700 block of Era Avenue, near West Florissant Avenue, authorities said.

Tayia Beck, 24, was fatally shot in the face about 9 p.m. as she was riding in a car being driven by a 33-year-old man. The man was shot in the neck, police said, and was in critical but stable condition at an undisclosed hospital. A 15-year-old girl in the back seat of the man's car was unhurt.

Police said a car containing at least three people pulled alongside the victims' car. After an exchange of words, several shots were fired from the suspects' car, police said.

Beck lived in the 9600 block of Inagua Drive in Ferguson.

Detectives believe the shooting was over a personal matter.
(Like who took the last Kool?) They were looking Sunday for at least one additional suspect. A murder warrant will be sought today against the woman who was arrested Sunday.

From the St. Louis Times-Dispatch, (4/2/07):
Shooting suspect kills himself, police say

A suspect in a weekend killing shot himself dead late Sunday in Jennings as St. Louis homicide detectives were walking up to his car, authorities said.

Adaryl Gibson, 32, shot himself in the head just before midnight while sitting in his parked car in the 2600 block of McLaran Avenue, police said. The detectives had planned to question and arrest him, officials said.

Gibson was suspected of being the triggerman in a double shooting about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 5700 block of Era Avenue, near West Florissant Avenue. Tayia Beck, 24, of Ferguson, was killed, and a 33-year-old man was critically wounded.

Police said the two were in a car and Beck was having words with a young woman in another car that had pulled alongside. Just after the quarrel, several shots were fired from the car containing the young woman, St. Louis police said. A 15-year-old girl who was in the back seat of the victims' car was unhurt.

Crack cocaine was found in the car in which the people were shot, but it apparently had nothing to do with the incident, detectives said.
