Aide to Council President Nick Mosby arrested on drug, gun charges in Baltimore County

Friday, June 17th 2022

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — An aide to Baltimore City Council President Nick Mosby was arrested this month in Baltimore County on gun and drug charges, according to Maryland court records.

Jade Kala Johnson, 24, faces charges of drug possession with intent to distribute and weapons violations. She was arrested on June 6.

Johnson is being represented by prominent defense attorney and Mosby ally Warren Brown. Brown confirmed she is an employee with Nick Mosby's office.

Johnson, a recently hired city employee, does not appear on the city's database. The charges noted that Johnson had a loaded handgun in her vehicle.

She was held without bond for several days. She was eventually released on her own recognizance Friday.

A request for comment from Mosby was not immediately returned on Friday.

The arrest was first reported by The Baltimore Sun.

Brown said he was confident the charges will be resolved without jail time and said it was not "a big deal."

He said Johnson has no prior criminal history, is a recent graduate of Towson University and working on earning her master's degree. He said she was registered to own the gun legally. Brown said the drugs that were found were marijuana and were owned by Johnson's friend.

"In terms of doing a story on the criminal justice system, oh my God, you know, she is a minnow in a sea of whales," Brown said.
