Fla. man finds mom dead, son stabbed​

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A man came home to find his mother fatally stabbed and his 6-year-old son clinging to life, authorities said.

John Tackaberry, 29, found the body of his mother, Jane Ann Tackaberry, 53, and his son, Elijah, about 3 a.m. Tuesday, police lieutenant Pat Ma
ney said. The boy was in critical condition at St. Mary's Medical Center, but was expected to survive, authorities said.

A motive for the attack has not been determined, but detectives said they are following several solid leads. The son was not considered a suspect, police said.

Authorities would not say how many times the mother and son were stabbed or what kind of weapon was used in the attack.

John Tackaberry collapsed and had to be taken to a hospital when he returned to the scene later in the morning to help police locate the family's dog, which was later found.

"He's sick to his stomach," Lt. Pat Maney said. "You walk in and find your mother dead at 3 a.m. I'm surprised he held up as long as he did."

ome to find his mother fatally stabbed and his 6-year-old son clinging to life in their West Palm Beach home. Police arrested what they're describing as a spurned lover and the hit man she hired late Tuesday night in connection with the incident.

29-year-old John Tackaberry found the body of his mother, 53-year-old JaneTackaberry and his son, Elijah, about 3 a.m. Tuesday, police lieutenant Pat Maney said. The boy was in critical condition at St. Mary's Medical Center, but was expected to survive, authorities said.

34-year-old Rhonda Norman and 21-year-old Wes McGee were charged with murder in the death of Jane Tackaberry, 53, and the stabbing of 6-year-old Elijah Tackaberry early Tuesday morning.

Police say, Norman is the former girlfriend of John Tackaberry. Norman reportedly told police questioners that she wanted to " hurt john Tackaberry as badly as he had hurt her with his promiscuity," a police report said. It added " she fully intended to murder him."

According to detectives,
Norman hired McGee as a killer for all the money in the house. Norman and McGee then went to the Tackaberry front door on the 600 block of Avenida Alegra and knocked. When Jane Ann Tackaberry opened the door, McGee pushed the door in and punched her in the face, knocking her to the floor.

Mourners share memories of West Palm grandmother killed during attack​

West Palm Beach -- Six days later, the pain still burned on this scorching day outside the Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home.

It lingered in the faces of mourners who gathered to offer support and share fond memories of the West Palm Beach woman killed in a brutal attack inside her apartment early Tuesday.

About 200 came to remember Jane Tackaberry, 53, on Sunday. They included friends and family from her native Minnesota, co-workers and students from the Boynton Beach charter school where she was to begin teaching full time. The outpouring was welcomed but nearly overwhelming for Tackaberry's family, still coming to terms with the sudden loss.

Hours after the killing of Jane Tackaberry and t
he maiming of her 6-year-old grandson early Tuesday morning, the suspected killer kept calling Tackaberry's son and daughter trying to find out what they knew.

Rhonda Norman, 34, said she heard about the crime on the news, Tackaberry's daughter, Stephanie Rinzel said Thursday outside court.

According to police:

When Jane Tackaberry, 53, opened the door, Norman pushed it open wider/ and McGee punched her, knocking her to the floor.

"Rhonda, please don't do this," Tackaberry pleaded.

A second punch knocked her unconscious.

Norman ran to the kitchen and got two knives from the cutting block Tackaberry's daughter gave her for Christmas.

She handed one to McGee.

"Finish her," Norman commanded. He stabbed her at least three times, killing her in a doorway by the living room.

John Tackaberry's son, Elijah, 6, was sleeping in his bed. Norman told McGee to get him. He carried Elijah to the dinin
g room and placed Elijah on the floor.

McGee stepped on his head, slashed Elijah's neck, stabbed him in the chest and left him for dead.

They emptied Tackaberry's purse of hundreds of dollars of the hairdresser's tips. It became McGee's payment, police said.
