Two reputed leaders of the Trinitarios gang have been convicted for their roles in the brutal stabbing death of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz outside a Bronx bodega, officials announced Friday.
Diego Suero, 33, and Frederick Then, 24, were convicted Friday of second-degree murder in the gruesome caught-on-camera attack of the 15-year-old on June 20, 2018.
They face up to 25 years to life behind bars. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 16.
Suero was identified as the leader of “Los Sures” subset of the Trinitarios gang. His second-in-command was Then. The duo called their members to Suero’s home and ordered the murder of a rival Trinitarios gang called “Sunset,” according to the Bronx District Attorney’s office.
A group of five other gang members – who have already been convicted – came across Guzman-Feliz, mistaking him for their target. The teen had no gang affiliation.

The men chased the teen into the deli before dragging him outside where they hacked him repeatedly with knives and machetes. A video of the brutal stabbing went viral.

Guzman-Feliz succumbed to his injuries and was unable to make it one block over to the hospital.

Then supervised the attack from a distance reporting back to Suero that they carried out the hit, prosecutors have said.

“These men, leaders of a Trinitarios set, commanded their members to go out and commit violence,” DA Darcel Clark said in a statement. “The order ended the life of a promising 15-year-old boy, Lesandro ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz.”

“A Bronx jury found the two leaders guilty for their role in the murder, closing another chapter of this tragedy,” Clark said.

Then’s lawyer, Larry Sheehan, said he couldn’t comment because of a gag order the judge put in place in the case.

Suero’s lawyer didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Five reputed members of the Trinitarios gang pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter charges for the killing of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz in the Bronx four years ago.
The five men are the latest to be convicted for the horrific, caught-on-camera slaying of the innocent 15-year-old in a Bronx bodega on June 20, 2018 that left New York City reeling.
Ronald Urena; Luis Cabrera Santos, 29; Gabriel Ramirez Concepcion, 30, and Danilo Payamps Pacheco, 26, pleaded guilty on Wednesday. A fifth defendant, Jose Tavarez, 26, pleaded guilty on Nov. 16, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced Wednesday.
The men were part of a group of 14 “Los Sures” Trinitarios gang members who targeted Guzman-Feliz, chased him and dragged him out of a Belmont bodega. Five other gang members stabbed and slashed the teen over and over again with knives and a machete, killing him, prosecutors said.

Guzman-Feliz’s killers mistook him as a member of a rival gang, but the boy was just an innocent teenager.
His mother Leandra Feliz demanded his son’s killers be held accountable, starting a “Justice for Junior” campaign that spread nationwide along with the stomach-turning video of his murder.
The five men will be sentenced to prison terms ranging from 12 to 15 years, followed by post release supervision as part of their plea agreements, according to the district attorney’s office.

“The defendants’ actions culminated in the brutal attack on Lesandro “Junior” Guzman… Since Junior was taken from his family, we have been relentless to attain justice for him,” Clark said in a statement.

Several of Guzman-Feliz’s more than a dozen attackers have already been convicted and sentenced.

Another member of the Trinitarios gang has been convicted in the killing of 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, who was brutally stabbed to death outside of a Bronx bodega in 2018.
Danel Fernandez, 25, pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter in Bronx Supreme Court on Tuesday for his role in the caught-on-camera slaying, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office announced.
He is the last of 13 defendants who were involved in the teen’s death. Fernandez will be sentenced to up to 18 years in prison and five years of supervised release, officials said.
“Although the defendant did not stab the victim, his actions led to the horrifying death of the innocent teen,” District Attorney Clark said in a statement.
“This brings an end to the case, but will never bring closure for Junior’s grieving family,” he said.

Fernandez, a member of the “Los Sures” set of the Trinitarios, was directed by leaders Diego Suero and Frederick Then — who were convicted of second-degree murder in July — to “commit violence” against members of the rival “Sunset” Trinitarios, according to officials.
